Bar Tango

Bar Tango

When I accidentally stumbled upon Bar Tango on Facebook, I just had to check it out. Those who know me, know that I love Argentinian Tango. I love to dance it.
And with the new owner, since two months, the name isn’t just a name any more of the bar. This bar with its name already exists since 1976, but now the tapas all have names related to the tango scene. Names based on songs, singers, Tangobars in Argentina, etc.
The present owner is a young man from Uruguay, who grew up with Tango, so he just had to take over this bar.
The music in the bar this afternoon wasn’t tango though, more jazz. For the amount of people in the bar the music was rather loud. This Thursday afternoon there were only two tables occupied.

The previous owner of the Bar Tango was Italian and also had as tapas pizzas and burritos and Ismael has decided to continue with it. He just changed the names and changed some tapas. Now you can chose between eleven pizzas and twelve burritos.
As the first tapa I choose the pizza called Adios Nonino, to go with my tinto de verano. The tinto de verano could have had some more wine in it, but the pizza was really good. I liked it.

For the second tapa I had to choose a burrito, so I decided for the ‘Garua’. Some bites where really tasty others a bit less tastfull.
But the tapas I choose today weren’t the star tapas. Those which are sold the most are the pizzas Gardel and Piazolla and the burritos Araca, Cambalache and Yimauta (if I remember well).
Ismael told me that all ingredients are homemade, like for example the honey mustard sauce of my burrito. And the dough is from Italy.

At the terrace of Bar Tango you can find four tables with chairs and inside there are three high tables with bar stools and six barstools along the bar. So the place is rather small and at night the bar always fills up. If you want to get a seat, you need to be there at eight o’clock.
In the afternoons there are usually less people, Fridays and Sundays are top afternoons. At night time a friend helps him out, and in the weekend he has two people helping out. In the weekends Ismael is the cook in the tiny kitchen, preparing the tapas.
In the bar there is no internet.

On Mondays the bar is closed but all the other days of the week it is open from 12 till 16 and from 20h to 1. But he might decide for the summer the change the opening hours and close in the afternoon and open a bit earlier in the evenings.
