Huerto Abuelo Cebolleta

Huerto Abuelo Cebolleta

In April we visited for the second time  Huerto Abuelo Ceboletta. During our first visit, it was a very sunny day, but the service wasn’t that good.
This time it was a rather cold day and I stayed inside all the time, close to the chimney. Very comfy with the heat.
It looks like there has been a change in waiter, as the service was better.
The bar is actually kind of an industrial plant, next to communal gardens. It is in the middle of the nature, close to the river Genil, in Cenes de la Vega.
The name is derived from the nickname of the owner of the communal grounds, Abuelo Ceboletta.
The current man in charge, Rafa, takes care of the bar now for 2,5 years. The bar opened 6 years ago. One day Rafa came to have something to eat and decided to take charge of the bar.
The majority of the visitors are families, as kids can play safely on the grounds. Further people working in their gardens and people walking by take a break at the bar.
They also offer the possibility to organize parties and they also organize use themselves afternoons for kids to learn things about nature.
In Huerto Abuelo Ceboletta are six tables inside and a football table. Today there were only 8 tables on the terrace and one large wooden table with a huge trunk as chairs.
Today I ordered several glasses of mosto, locally made in las Alpujarras. I liked it. The first tapa that came was meat in sauce. The second tapa at first did not come. A table that came later then I did order, had the tapa before I did. Finally they gave as second tapa a bit of lamb on a slice of bread and some olives. These had a nice taste. The lamb was also good.
The first time the tapa were migas. After asking for the second tapa various times they gave us again migas. But they were not bad.
According to Rafa the star meal, depends on the weather as well. The plate that is ordered the most is lamb’s leg from the oven and papas a la pobre (poor man’s potatoes). The meals are tipical Andalusian and are homemade.
Opening hours are usually from 11 till 23h, but when there is a party they remain open longer. Opening hours are flexible and they only open when the weather is good.
